How the GONE Fishing Gambling Pool Works

The GONE Fishing gambling pool can turn a modest catch into a much more valuable sacrifice—or cut its value before you get home. That matters when the same fish could help satisfy the lake’s hunger or pay for upgrades. Use the GONE Fishing gambling pool with surplus fish, and keep your quota covered before risking a catch you need.

The basic interaction is simple: throw or drop a fish into the pool, and its points value receives a random multiplier. A winning result increases that value; a losing result reduces it. Each fish gets one gamble, so you cannot keep throwing a disappointing result back until it improves.

MechanicWhat happens
Putting fish inThrow or drop a fish into the gambling pool
WinningThe fish’s points value increases
LosingThe fish’s points value decreases
Repeat attemptsEach individual fish can be gambled only once
Red outlineThe fish has already been gambled
Cooked fishCooked and uncooked fish can both be gambled

Watch the points value, rather than judging the result by the fish’s weight. Pounds and sacrifice value are different measurements. A catch that looks impressive still needs to contribute enough value toward your remaining quota.

Keep track of which fish your group has already used. The red outline is especially useful when several players are tossing catches into the same pool. Picking up someone else’s finished fish does not give it another attempt.

Finding the Pool and Planning Your Route

On the cactus-lined route, look for a cave behind the cacti near a rock formation. Armadillos are another landmark along that approach. Inside, the gambling pool is the destination for changing the value of fish you have already caught.

Use those landmarks to recognize the entrance, then learn the return route while you still have daylight. Wandering through unfamiliar caves with a full inventory adds travel risk to the gamble itself.

Landmark or toolWhat to look for or do
Cacti and rock formationLook for the cave entrance behind the cacti
ArmadillosUse them as an additional landmark along the approach
Cave entranceRemember its surroundings for the trip back
Interactive map custom pinsMark a location yourself once you identify it
Map gridUse the grid to communicate your marked position

The game’s interactive map includes custom pins, a visible grid, and filters for structures, enemies, loot, bait, and vehicles. Pins save locally, so mark the pool entrance when you find it and use the grid when explaining your route to friends.

Bring fish with you. Plan the visit around gambling existing catches, and leave your fishing session at a spot where you can reliably build your inventory.

Before committing to the trip:

  • Check your remaining quota in the Esc menu.
  • Set aside fish needed for the altar.
  • Identify the cave entrance and your return path.
  • Carry a lantern when exploring caves.
  • Leave enough daylight to return and sacrifice your catches.

The GONE Fishing gambling pool becomes much easier to fit into a run once you can travel there without getting lost. Spend your exploration time learning the route before hauling over the catches your team depends on.

Understanding Win Chances and Version Changes

Difficulty and the dog affect gambling odds. Easier difficulty with the dog spawned gives better odds than the hardest difficulty without the dog.

GONE Fishing — Understanding Win Chances and Version Changes

The bone matters here. Sacrificing it at the creature altar improves the gambling setup associated with the dog. On the Lake map, look for the bone at the doghouse behind the shack. Take it to the creature altar; keep that task separate from feeding fish to satisfy the lake’s hunger.

Alpha Build 4.4.8 odds

In Alpha Build 4.4.8, gambling used separate random rolls to determine whether you won and how large the resulting multiplier would be.

The historical breakdown was:

Difficulty and bone statusApproximate win chanceAverage value multiplier
Non–Jeremy Wade, without bone sacrifice39.00%1.81×
Non–Jeremy Wade, with bone sacrifice44.56%1.99×
Jeremy Wade, without bone sacrifice29.67%1.52×
Jeremy Wade, with bone sacrifice35.22%1.69×

These figures belong to Alpha Build 4.4.8. Later updates buffed gambling and adjusted its rewards, so the table describes that build’s balance.

The useful lesson is how win frequency and average return differ. In that build, losses happened more often than wins, yet the average multiplier remained above the starting value. Larger winning payouts outweighed the more frequent reductions across many attempts.

That does not protect a particular fish. You can have a favorable average return and still shrink the catch you needed for tonight’s quota.

Later gambling changes

Subsequent updates buffed gambling, then increased the minimum winning bonus from 1.15 to 1.25 and raised the chance of a maximum win.

Those changes make older blanket claims such as “it’s always fifty-fifty” or “you win three out of seven” poor shortcuts for understanding the system. Difficulty, the dog, and the game version all matter.

Use the GONE Fishing gambling pool with those factors in mind. Complete the bone sacrifice before committing valuable surplus catches, and judge each trip by how much value you can afford to lose.

A losing streak also does not make your next fish safe. Keep your quota reserve separate even after several disappointing results.

Cooking, Quota, and Fish Value

Cooking increases a fish’s value by 33%, whether you sell it or sacrifice it. Cooking takes 10–75 seconds, depending on the fish’s size, so include that time when planning your return from the pool.

GONE Fishing — Cooking, Quota, and Fish Value

Cooked fish can be gambled, and uncooked fish can be cooked afterward. In Alpha Build 4.4.8, either order preserved the same overall value relationship.

Cooking after a loss raises the reduced value that remains. It does not automatically restore the fish to its original worth. Likewise, cooking after a win increases the value of that improved catch.

Give yourself time to finish processing your fish before nightfall. A larger potential payout has little practical value if you are still in a cave when your team needs sacrifices at home.

Protect the fish that cover tonight

The altar’s flame turns blue when the lake’s hunger is satisfied. Your quota grows with each day, and you can check it in the Esc menu.

Separate your catches by purpose before visiting the pool:

  • Quota fish: Keep enough dependable value for the altar.
  • Surplus fish: Gamble catches whose reduced value would not ruin tonight’s plan.
  • Sale fish: Decide which catches you want to convert into upgrade money.
  • Cooking queue: Allow time to cook fish that still need the value increase.

Coordinate those decisions in co-op. Currency is shared, so selling a valuable fish affects the group’s spending pool. Tell your teammates which catches are reserved before someone carries them off to gamble.

If your quota is already covered, a loss mainly reduces the value available for other goals. If your quota is short, gambling can deepen that shortage. Reserve desperation attempts for situations where you accept that trade-off.

The GONE Fishing gambling pool is optional risk within a survival schedule. Check the flame, check the clock, and decide what you can spare before making the trip.

Planning a Gambling Run in Version 1.0

Version 1.0 introduced trinket-based progression, expanded traps, and changes to multiplayer upgrade costs and quota growth. Build your routine around those systems when preparing fish for gambling.

Start with your daily resources. Bait traps become harvestable in the morning after collecting bait overnight. Fish traps also collect overnight, require bait from your tacklebox, and produce fish based on the value of that bait.

The fish trap upgrade purchased from Jeb allows a trap to collect up to three fish per bait. Pairing bait collection with fish traps gives you another way to build an inventory while leaving time for exploration.

Use that extra supply to cover sacrifices before carrying surplus to the pool. Passive catches still have value for the altar and trader, so include them in your allocation.

Keep pool gambling and trinkets separate

Version 1.0 also includes Gambler’s Doubloon, which has a chance to multiply a fish’s value. That is a trinket effect, separate from throwing a fish into the pool.

Several other trinkets affect catching or processing fish:

Version 1.0 trinketEffect
Gambler’s DoubloonChance to multiply a fish’s value
Devil’s EmberChance to instantly smoke a caught fish
Hungry hookChance to get an immediate bite when casting
Deadman’s HandChance to reel in a fish instantly
Iron wormChance to retain bait after catching a fish

Trinkets and their upgrades are shared with your friends. Coordinate purchases around the group’s fishing needs, especially when everyone is using the same currency.

Keep the GONE Fishing gambling pool visit focused:

  1. Collect your morning trap harvests. Add those resources to your day’s fishing plan.
  2. Check the quota. Identify the catches needed to satisfy the lake.
  3. Complete the bone sacrifice. Improve your gambling setup before risking surplus.
  4. Carry eligible fish to the pool. Leave already-gambled, red-outlined catches out of the trip.
  5. Gamble each fish once. Check its resulting points value.
  6. Return with time to cook and sacrifice. Finish the day’s survival tasks before chasing more value.

Skip another trip when travel would crowd out those final tasks. The pool offers a chance at a stronger inventory; your route, cooking time, and quota determine whether that chance fits today’s run.

FAQ

How do you use the GONE Fishing gambling pool?

Throw or drop an eligible fish into the pool to change its points value. Each fish can be gambled once. A red outline marks a fish that has already used its attempt.

Does the dog improve gambling odds?

Yes. Having the dog spawned improves gambling odds, and difficulty also affects them. Sacrifice the bone at the creature altar as part of preparing your gambling setup. On the Lake map, the bone is at the doghouse behind the shack.

Should you cook fish before or after gambling?

Both cooked and uncooked fish can be gambled. Cooking adds 33% value. In Alpha Build 4.4.8, cooking before or after gambling preserved the same overall value relationship. Allow enough time to finish cooking before you need the fish.

Can you gamble the same fish again after losing?

No. Each fish gets one attempt, including fish that lose value. Keep the reduced catch for cooking, selling, or sacrificing, and use a different eligible fish for another gamble.
