How Does the GONE Fishing Quota Work?
Your GONE Fishing quota is the daily fish-value target standing between your crew and a hungry lake monster. Meet it by sacrificing fish at the altar before settling down for the night. Managing the GONE Fishing quota means balancing survival against the temptation to sell your catch for upgrades.
The target measures fish value, not simply the number of fish or their combined weight. Catching something heavy feels great, but check its value before deciding whether that catch covers the remaining requirement.
Bring fish to the altar and deposit them. Each offering contributes toward satisfying the lake, and the flame turns blue when you have met the requirement.
| Quota indicator | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| Text displayed when sacrificing a fish | The fish-value requirement for that day |
| Quota information in the Esc menu | Your quota |
| Growing altar flame | Progress toward satisfying the lake |
| Blue altar flame | The lake’s hunger is satisfied |
The quota grows as the days advance, so a routine that barely covers an early target needs investment to keep working later. Better catches, value boosts, and passive fish production all help you keep pace.
Altar contents also matter. Quota logic recalculates when fish enter or leave the altar. Leave your offerings in place, and check the flame again after anyone handles fish around it.
Missing quota exposes players to the monster’s nighttime punishment. Repeated failures can end the run. Sleeping does not erase an unpaid requirement, and meeting quota does not remove every other creature from the map.

Follow a Daily Routine That Protects Your Catch
Build your day around getting enough value into the altar, then funding tomorrow’s fishing. Avoid leaving every important decision until the light starts fading.

1. Collect bait and harvest ready traps
Gather bait before committing to a fishing spot. With the 1.0 trap rework, bait traps become harvestable at the start of each morning after working overnight.
Collect that supply and check your Fish Traps as part of the same circuit. Keep spare bait with you so an empty tacklebox does not force another trip while the quota remains unfinished.
2. Choose a manageable fishing spot
Start in safer, shallower water while learning the fishing mechanics. Move toward deeper spots as your setup improves, since water depth contributes to average fish size.
Keep the return journey in mind. A valuable fish still needs to reach the altar, and a long detour leaves less time for another cast or cooking.
3. Deliver catches throughout the day
Make regular offerings instead of carrying your entire contribution until dusk. Read the displayed quota information when depositing fish, then tell your teammates what remains.
For a group, assign someone to watch progress while others keep fishing. Rotate that responsibility so everyone understands whether the crew needs more offerings or can start selling surplus.
4. Cook when the extra value helps
Cooking increases a fish’s sacrifice and sale value by 33%. Use that bonus when you have time to finish cooking and deliver the result.
Keep the stove working while another player fishes or handles bait. Avoid putting the whole day’s survival behind one unfinished cooking job.
5. Check blue, then return to bed
Before sleeping, verify that the altar flame is blue. Finish necessary deliveries and head inside rather than stretching the evening for another optional catch.
The GONE Fishing quota should guide those decisions throughout the day. Checking it only at bedtime leaves fewer ways to fix a shortfall.
Increase Fish Value Before Chasing More Fish
More casts help, but improving the value of your catches also moves the target closer. Bait, depth, weather, and cooking all affect what you can contribute.

| Mechanic | Effect on your catch | Action to take |
|---|---|---|
| Bait quality | Influences fish species and size | Use better bait as your fishing setup develops |
| Water depth | Greater depth increases average fish size | Find deeper fishing spots when prepared |
| Rain and thunderstorms | Increase the fishing bait score | Fish during these weather events |
| Cooking | Adds 33% to sacrifice and sale value | Cook valuable catches when time allows |
Bait selection involves more than grabbing whatever is nearest. Different bait can attract different species, and bait quality contributes to the calculation behind your catch.
Spread useful bait across the crew. Leaving one player with all the stronger bait while everyone else searches for worms wastes fishing opportunities.
Depth is measured beneath the bobber. Casting farther does not automatically mean you have reached deeper water. Use a depth finder to locate deep spots instead of judging entirely by distance from shore.
Weather creates another opportunity. Rain and thunderstorms boost the fishing calculation, with thunderstorms providing the stronger effect. Keep bait ready so you can fish during the event rather than spend it searching inland.
Cooking gives you a more direct value increase. Both altar offerings and merchant sales benefit from the 33% bonus. The stove handles one fish at a time, so manage its workload rather than dropping a pile onto it.
For your GONE Fishing quota, think about value delivered before nightfall. Choose a nearby offering over a long optional trip when the deadline is close.
Keep gambling separate from the fish you need for survival. Gambling can reduce a catch’s value, and each fish can only be gambled once. Reserve quota fish before risking surplus catches.
Use Version 1.0 Trinkets to Improve Fishing
Version 1.0 makes trinkets central to fishing progression. Clinket offers eight trinkets, and their effects can combine with one another.

Trinket purchases and upgrades are shared with your friends. Coordinate spending so the crew works toward useful combinations.
| Trinket | Effect |
|---|---|
| Iron worm | Chance to retain bait after catching a fish |
| Hungry hook | Chance to get an immediate bite when casting |
| Gambler's Doubloon | Chance to multiply a fish’s value |
| Devil's Ember | Chance to instantly smoke a caught fish |
| Deadman's Hand | Chance to instantly reel in a fish |
| Siren's Conch | Increases the odds of legendary and mythic fish |
| Captain's Stopwatch | Chance to perfectly complete the first strike minigame |
| Bassweiser | Chance to gain a buzz from catching a fish |
Several of these effects directly address delays in the fishing loop. Hungry hook affects waiting for a bite, Captain's Stopwatch affects the opening strike, and Deadman's Hand affects reeling.
When all three activate together, the fish goes into your inventory as soon as the bobber reaches the water. That combination depends on simultaneous activations; keep fishing normally between those moments.
Choose purchases around the problem your crew is facing:
- Running short on bait: Consider Iron worm’s bait-retention chance.
- Spending too long on each catch: Combine effects that shorten different fishing stages.
- Needing more value from catches: Consider Gambler's Doubloon’s value-multiplication chance.
- Pursuing rare species: Use Siren's Conch to increase legendary and mythic odds.
The GONE Fishing quota still needs ordinary, repeatable contributions. Keep making altar deliveries while developing your trinkets instead of waiting for a rare catch or a lucky combination.
Separate the gambling pool from Gambler's Doubloon when planning your day. The trinket can multiply a caught fish’s value; using the pool is a separate decision that risks the fish you already have.
Add Overnight Traps and Coordinate Co-op Spending
Traps give you another source of bait and fish while reducing the amount of active fishing required. Version 1.0 changes this loop around overnight production and morning collection.
| Trap or upgrade | What it provides |
|---|---|
| Minnow Trap | Bait collected overnight |
| Crab Trap | Bait collected overnight |
| Rabbit/Raccoon trap | Bait collected overnight |
| Fish Trap | Fish collected overnight using tacklebox bait |
| Fish Trap upgrade from Jeb | Allows collection of up to three fish per bait |
Pair bait production with a Fish Trap. Collect bait in the morning, use it to supply the Fish Trap, and keep the cycle running across subsequent nights.
The bait’s value affects which fish the Fish Trap collects. Check what you are loading before assigning bait between passive production and rod fishing.
Buy the Fish Trap upgrade from Jeb when investing in that system. Its capacity of up to three fish per bait expands what each bait can produce.
Watch your footing around the Rabbit/Raccoon trap, too. Keep it away from the route teammates repeatedly use for deliveries.
Adjust to the 1.0 multiplayer rework
The GONE Fishing quota no longer scales linearly with player count in version 1.0. Group requirements account for the reduced productivity that comes with more people competing for bait and dealing with chaos.
Item and upgrade costs also received a separate scaling adjustment. In the four-player example, an upgrade with a solo cost of 100 costs approximately 200 under the revised pricing, rather than 400.
Coordinate purchases around the shared trinket system and keep enough fish allocated to the altar before selling. More affordable progression still requires the crew to divide its catch deliberately.
Use clear roles when the day gets busy:
- Keep players fishing while someone collects ready traps.
- Have someone manage cooking and deliver finished fish.
- Call out the remaining requirement after offerings.
- Agree on purchases before spending toward shared progression.
Version 1.0 also lowers the Swamp’s starting quota to match the Lake. Whichever map you choose, check the current day’s requirement rather than carrying yesterday’s target in your head.
FAQ
How do I know when I have met the GONE Fishing quota?
Look for a blue flame at the altar. You can also check quota information in the Esc menu and read the requirement displayed when sacrificing fish. Verify the flame before sleeping, especially after anyone removes an offering.
Does cooking fish help meet quota?
Yes. Cooked fish provide 33% more value when sacrificed and also sell for 33% more. The stove cooks one fish at a time. Start cooking early enough to finish and deliver the fish before nightfall.
Does quota increase with more players?
Version 1.0 uses multiplayer quota scaling that accounts for reduced productivity in larger groups. It no longer increases linearly with player count. Item and upgrade prices received a separate scaling rework as well.
Can I sleep without meeting quota?
Going to bed does not satisfy the lake. Missing the daily requirement exposes players to nighttime punishment, and repeated failures can end the run. Deliver fish until the altar flame turns blue, then head inside and sleep.
